October is the tenth month of the year and the first month of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a month of cooler weather and shorter days as the transition from summer to winter takes place. In the United States, October is a month of celebration and observances with several holidays, events, and special days. One of the most popular and widely celebrated holidays is Halloween, which falls on October 31st. Other significant holidays in the United States during October include Columbus Day, which is observed on the second Monday of the month, and Indigenous Peoples' Day, which is celebrated as an alternative to Columbus Day in some states.
